Introducing Port Steingard, Kråko
Situated in the municipality of Fitjar, in the magical area Sunnhordland in Norway, just south of Bergen.
Port Steingard is the heart and soul of the Kråko peninsula.
Where past and future meets, the awe inspiring landscape gives you goosebumps, the silence penetrates your heart and the calm surroundings makes you breathe easier.
Modern and traditional architecture hand in hand
Visitors can enjoy the traditional small boathouses, cleverly juxtaposed with ultra modern structures, and hear the story of how the architect was inspired by old traditional building styles and techniques and has recreated that on one side of the bay, and created something totally different on the other side. A must-see effect, that brings the old and new times together beautifully.
We pride ourselves of architecture that is inspired by, but not copies of traditionally built sea houses. The Norwegian architect Jo Kjetil Nielsen of JK arkitektur has designed the buildings at Port Steingard. The way he has designed the area is a magical blend of vernacular architecture and innovative materials and structures, side by side with boathouses in traditional style.
Traditional coastal culture and new activities
In this area, grandfathers still take the grandchildren out fishing, according to the old ways. But we also have room for new-fangled inventions, like jet skis and Stand Up Paddle boards. The area is perfect for free diving, scuba diving and kayaking.
Stunning landscape
The rugged, windswept landscape never ceases to amaze even us locals, and guests are always awestruck, whatever the weather.
Slow food in calm surroundings
PS Bryggekafé which in Norwegian is a word play that can mean both "the café on the pier" and "the brewery café". And we find that rather amusing, because we are both situated right on the pier and also in the same building as the local microbrewery. We usually say that we are so close to the sea that you have to be careful when you stand up.
Award winning beer
The small microbrewery ELØ - En Liten Øl (meaning A Small Beer) is our pride and joy, having won several awards for their beer, and we are quite proud of being next door to this fabulous little brewery. The brewmaster claims that part of the success of the beer is the excellent quality of the water here in Fitjar.
Old stories
What goes better with a cold handcrafted beer than old stories? We have several to tell. And one of them is actually true! it involves the mythical creature the Hulder, which has been a strong part of folklore up to modern times. We don't have to go more then one generation back in time here in Fitjar to hear about people who seriously claim they had seen her.
The story of The Hulder Boulder
You will hear this true story as part of a beer tasting in PS Bryggekafé, Port Steingard, Kråko.
We look forward to seeing you here!
